Welcome to Theta Fleet!

Theta Fleet News

(All older news items are under the NEWS tab)

Established in 2009, Theta Fleet is a community of simmers (text-based roleplayers) who strive to build a place where people are more important than politics and everyone is welcome to join the conversation.

We haven't forgotten that we all write for fun. Reports are voluntary, and instead of fleet meetings, we have a monthly fleet voice chat for those who are available and want to get to know their neighbors.

COs control their sims and missions. Task Groups and Task Forces are for organizational purposes and to give support, not micromanage. Fleet Staff is frequently around to chat, help with problems, or answer questions.

Theta Fleet firmly believes in the cooperative side of roleplay, where players work together. Everyone from cadet to commanding officer has a voice and is part of the family.

We believe in having friendly, cooperative relations with other fleets and groups because we're all part of the greater simming community.

February 9, 2024

As we all know, the only constant in life is change.

Over the years, Theta Fleet has gone through a number of small changes as people move on or our needs have changed.

Fleet Admin has been discussing several changes this year to better suit current needs.

Today, we announce that the Theta Fleet support team has been changed to Support and Resources.

Captain Kagami Izumi is now the Director of Fleet Resources: Nova (Mods, Skins, Ranks).

Captain Ka'Tock is now the Director of Fleet Resources: Personnel (Characters & Departments).

We are pleased to welcome two new TFCOs:

Task Force 23 TFCO is Captain Marc Kidd - USS Artemis.

Area 51 CO is Qierress - USS Quebec.

We look forward to what they will bring to Theta!

January 2024 Theta Fleet Awards

Sometimes it's hard to choose between several excellent choices for awards. This month, we had an abundance of nominations to choose from and so picked more than one because they all deserve the recognition.

UNIT OF DISTINCTION

Task Force 23

     Gold: Frontier Station

     Silver: Cavalier, Calypso, & Hecate

     Bronze: Artemis, Unicorn, & Yamato

Area 51

Gold: USS Astrea & USS Myogi

     Silver: USS Columbia

     Bronze: Starbase 400, Ontario, Poseidon

WRITER OF THE MONTH

     Task Force 23:Artemis: Adalyn O'Rourke

As the profiler and counselor on the ship they have had their hands full. However, the latest post that they wrote not only divulged a lot about the criminal that the crew searched for but it divulged a lot about the Captain that she spoke with. Rarely do I read posts with a Counseor that involves actual counselling.

Area 51: Astrea & Standing Bear

Astrea: Nevan Kayto (Nate): Nevin brought a whole new division to the diplomatic corp dedicated to civilian aid. In addition to writing his main character, he’s already created two NPC’s, roommates who are besties who often see a little too much of one another. Nevan has engaged his three characters with numerous other characters which highlights his creativity and often entertaining writing skills.

Standing: Kat - has done an excellent job in writing a conclusion for Soral, the First Officer of the USS Standing from our very beginning.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

     Task Force 23: Unicorn: Nicole

Sub-Commander T’shir. She brings a wealth of knowledge on Sim Management and has been amazing at helping to run the sim. As T’shir, she brings a vulcan perspective to the sim that is always fun to see.

Area 51: No Way Home & Gladiator & Poseidon

No Way Home: Reuben Baptiste. I love his concept for a character who is disabled, in his case, through military service, both in how it reflects the reality some veterans face and in how it will affect his character's ability to survive and thrive in the aftermath of the Wildfire Virus. Like Victoire Olaffson, the writer brings real-world expertise to the role of retired military.

Gladiator: Lieutenant Commander Mel Torma, Exemplifying Excellence: We enthusiastically nominate Lieutenant Commander Mel Torma for Player of the Month once again. Throughout the month, Mel has continued to showcase remarkable character growth and skillfully crafted story arcs. Their ability to breathe life into characters and deftly navigate complex narratives is a testament to their commendable creativity and unwavering dedication. This nomination recognizes Mel's transformative influence on our shared narrative and their steadfast pursuit of excellence in role-playing. Bravo, Lieutenant Commander!

Poseidon: Lieutenant Commander Ky'la De'Lenn - They have been dealing with a lot medically yet, despite this, has absolutely banged out some wonderful contributions and participation. They deserve this recognition and congratulations!

The USS Artemis is an existing sim that just joined Task Force 23.

In the Federation any crime is considered especially heinous. In Starfleet the dedicated personnel who investigate the most vicious felonies are members of an elite crew known as the Criminal Investigations Unit. THESE ARE THEIR STORIES…

The year is 2397. The Federation is a peaceful utopia where all cultures live in harmony for the betterment of each other, or is it. The Federation, and by extension Starfleet, would have you believe that there is little to no crime in the utopia that is the Federation. However, crime does indeed run rampant so a unit was created to keep these most vicious criminals under the rug and out of site. This unit known as the Starfleet Criminal Investigations Service (SFCIS) is tasked with pursuing offenders of all kinds and bringing them to justice. As well as making sure that the Federation's image is maintained.

January 12, 2024

The USS Oceanus recently launched in Area 51. It focuses on exploration, adventure, and character development.

Themes and situations on the USS Oceanus Sim are centered around character growth, development, and experiences as they interact with and take part in missions and side-missions. This allows players to find themselves and their characters in appropriate situations for further character growth and development as they become acclimated with the crew and the sim. Players who enjoy some posting requirements mixed with a very relaxed atmosphere will find the Oceanus Sim enjoyable and welcoming.

WRITER OF THE MONTH

Task Force 23: USS Calypso: Arie.

Arie came aboard as the new XO and

Missouri: Drakomis. Within one month of joining, Drakomis has single-handedly helped redefine our sim's pace, and has gotten other players involved.

Columbia: Nicole/Commander Chalan Kendri - For putting the mission on your shoulder and carrying it with thoughtful development. Your writing has been essential to everything the Columbia has accomplished. You have brought the colony to life and provided direction among its events. Most recently, your Romulan themed posts have enveloped the crew within the Romulans while also helping to bring the mission to its conclusion.

     Gold: USS Columbia

Silver: USS Myogi & USS Tokyo

WRITER OF THE MONTH

     Task Force 23: Frontier: Jay

is doing a fantastic job of writing the grumpy Klingon XO who just doesn't want to be here.

Area 51: Gladiator: Lieutenant Josey Wales & Columbia: Sam/Lieutenant Ayesha binte Ansapata

Gladiator: WeWe nominate Mr. Wales for Writer of the Month. Despite real-world demands, he has shown exceptional dedication to his craft. His contributions, alongside fellow writers, have left a lasting impact on our community. Lieutenant Josey Wales's work embodies creativity, passion, and unwavering commitment, elevating our collective narrative.

Gladiator:

Columbia: For getting his characters involved with the plot through creative writing. His characters include a JAG advocate, Chief Strategic Operations Officer and an anthropologist. Sam asks for advice in how his characters can best fit in, but doesn’t wait to get them involved. His lawyer Dramin helped the CO in tense negotiations, even taking heat from an angry Klingon in the process.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

     Task Force 23: Calypso: Voz,

For his help with the Terran Empire side of this mission and helping keep it from being like every other Mirror Universe mission.

Area 51: Starbase 109: Austin  & Missouri: Chris Huskins

SB109: Reason: Austen's contributions this month have been mainly behind the scenes, but he has come back strong after a very dangerous surgery and is resuming his amazing writing and invaluable help as part of the command team. His motivation on and off the sim has been an inspiration to us all!

Missouri: After withdrawing from most (if not all) of his simming commitments earlier this year due to undergoing treatment for cancer, Chris is slowly re-entering simming after things have stabilized with his treatments. He was a great player on Myogi, and I'm sure he will be valued on Missouri as well. Welcome back, Chris!

November 11

November 10th was the 2488th anniversary of the USMC. We send a hearty Oohrah to all our Marine friends and family.

November 11th is Veteran's Day, Armistice Day, or Remembrance Day (depending on what you call it). It's a day to honor members of the military around the world and thank them for their service. For many, that service cost them their lives. Let us never forget—especially in these turbulent times—what their service and sacrifice has done to keep us free.

WRITER OF THE MONTH

     Task Force 23: Calypso: Voz.

He's wearing several hats this mission as the leader of the SWORD team on the Prowler, the Chief of Security on the Calypso, and the Chief Intelligence Officer who would like to get his hands on the tech that allows the pirates—and the Prowler—to cross between universes.

     Area 51: Samurai: Ruth

As Romulan spy, Lyirru el’Lyrrveoth, Ruth contributed setting up the entire communication method for getting secret location to rescue team on Nomad. It's so creative and works wonderfully!

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Task Force 23: Midway: Lt. Jeremiah McEntyre MD (Marshal01)

A special thanks to Dr. McEntyre, our new third doctor who recruited two new members to the crew. We look forward to writing with all of them for the foreseeable future.

Area 51: Myogi: Will and Mikey. These two were supposed to be separate nominations for Writer and Player, but I'm jointly nominating them for Writer for different reasons:

Will: This mission was in part his brainchild. He was the one who thought it would be fun to stick Taiga on the Myogi for a final act of The Fast & The Fleet, but I felt there was enough content potential to make it into its own mission.

Mikey: After serving for over 2 years as our Chief of Intelligence, Mikey has decided to step into our "cursed position" of Chief Engineer with a new Character, Ami Rori. I'm very much looking forward to the potential Lieutenant Rori is going to bring to the table.

     Bronze: USS Samurai

WRITER OF THE MONTH

Task Force 23: Calypso: Arie & Hecate: Commander Khiane Mau (Stargeek)

Calypso: Arie plays the new XO, Joren Tal. He's already been actively involved in posts and is a great writer. He's also spurred the rest of the crew back to activity.

Hecate: Stargeek - A well-written post and contributions to Joint Posts show the quality Stargeek brings to their characters. A Joy to write with.

     Area 51: Samurai: Brandon Perry.

It is unusual to nominate a PNPC as writer of the month, but this one plays a major part in a large story line on WV Nomad. It's her torture, her relationship with Isabella Perry, and her story that gave huge interest to telling Nomad's beginnings.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Task Force 23: Midway: Lt. Commander Marc Kitchner (Brian) & Frontier: Jai -

Midway: Brian has been my consistent writing partner for fourteen years now . When I pitched the idea of the Midway, he immediately signed on to the project with full enthusiasm. He has contributed immensely to each plotline and we often bounce ideas off of each other. He is one of the key contributors for the Midway's continued success and has been unrecognized up to now.

Frontier: Since stepping into the first officer position, Jai has been a great help to me as a CO. He helps mentor people under him and ensures that things run in and out of character smoothly. He has also been writing true to what a proper Klingon should speak and behave like and its been a lot of fun writing with him. I happily nominate him for Player of the Month as he has become a great asset to Starbase Frontier.

Area 51: Columbia: Andy/Lieutenant Jason Elliot & Tokyo: Jamie

For sparking a new level of creativity and mission focus through the use of a side plot. As the first person to take control of an away mission, Andy set an example that others followed. The crew saw that all writers had the ability to create new pathways for the storyline. This allowed the command staff to step back and react as gamemasters, with the story spring-boarding into a lively set of twists and turns. Andy’s characters showed both mortality and emotional vulnerability through a mission where his Intelligence Officer was wounded. He has also brought a fresh perspective of ideas into OOC discussions, collaborating with others to develop this plot and plan future stories.

Tokyo: Jamie - Jamie who joined the Tokyo as Amari, a home made alien species and engineering officer. He has been doing a fantastic job in a non-chief role which is hard to pull off without stepping on people's toes. I proudly nominate him as player of the month as it takes skill to play not only a unique species but also someone who isn't on the senior staff. (I'm going to start referring to him as our very own Reg Barcley!)

September 7

Banned Books Week ends today. Its focus is to celebrate the freedom to read. While there are some books that are definitely not appropriate for younger readers, too often a book is "banned" because of what someone thinks or hears is in the book. More often, books like "The Diary of A Young Girl" by Anne Frank or "Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain are banned for spurious reasons.

Take time this month to look at the list of banned books and find one you should buy and read—or introduce to a friend.

WRITER OF THE MONTH

     Task Force 23: Midway: Will

Special thanks to Will for keeping the story moving and continuing with the theme of integrating the mission in with the story of “In A Mirror, Darkly” especially this month when I was tied up and worn out between working, teaching and not sleeping.

     Area 51; Columbia: Michael/Lt. Cmdr.

Razka Kas - For in-depth character development and carefully crafted replies. This includes ensuring no character is left out in a joint post. Stories based on Kas are full of detail and emotion. He also writes often, taking part in 15 posts in August. He also played a major role in setting up and writing through a key part of this month's mission, navigating through a treacherous nebula.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

     Task Force 23: Calypso: Voz.

The current mission is partly his idea, and he will be helping with the ops team assisting the ship. He also has a devious mind, which works well for portraying bad guys.

     Area 51; Tokyo: Matthew C -

Matt is always looking three steps ahead and how to develop his character and the mission. He is doing well and is helping not only in character byt out of character.

September 11, 2023

Today, September 11, we honor those who lost their lives on 9/11 and especially the First Responders who ran into danger to save others.

Sometimes it is difficulties that bring us together in love and support. May we remember the sacrifices and heroism of this period in time and many others so that we can continue to reach out in love and support of those around us.
