Banned Books Week 2024
Sunday, September 22, 2024 7:25 AM
Banned Books Week is an annual awareness campaign promoted by the American Library Association and Amnesty International. It celebrates the freedom to read and draws attention to banned and challenged books.
This does not mean that some books are not appropriate for younger children and pre-teens. Rather, it highlights the fact that a number of important and educational books have been banned for spurious reasons. Books such as "Tom Sawyer," "To Kill a Mockingbird," "Harry Potter," Dr. Seuss, and the Bible—among many.
So, this week (September 22-28), take time to look at the list of banned books and then buy one. Or buy two and give one to a friend!
