Description
The D'deridex class warbird has long been on the front lines of the defence of the Romulan Star Empire. Little is known about the design history of the D'deridex class. While other warbirds, older than the D'deridex, are known to exist, none of them seem to bear any resemblance to the extravagant design of the D'deridex.

First observed by Starfleet in 2364 the D'deridex was twice the size of the then-largest Federation starship in service, the Galaxy class. It was soon found that the D'deridex was roughly the equal of a Galaxy class vessel in combat, though slightly slower and less manoeuvrable the D'deridex possessed greater range and fire power.

The D'deridex is equipped with a quantum singularity drive, which is an artificially created small quantum singularity that provides power for the engines through its strong gravity. When containment breaks down, though, the entire ship is destroyed. The advantage of the quantum singularity drive is that the singularity will always provide power through its gravity without the need for fuel. It can make the cloak somewhat less effective, though, if the alignment isn't just right.

The D'deridex class warbird is the mainstay of the Star Navy (or Galae'Rihanna) to this day, with hundreds of these vessels built. While the D'deridex class has taken heavy losses against the Dominion, largely on account of poor manoeuvrability which makes the ships highly vulnerable to Jem'Hadar suicide runs, the class is here to remain in service well into the next century.

D'deridex class construction was halted in 2378 with the introduction of the Norexan class warbird, intended to replace the D'deridex class as the Galae's most capable front line vessel. Nevertheless, the D'deridex class is high on the list of priorities for refits, keeping the class up to date with the latest technological advances of the Romulan Star Empire.
