Imagination is more important than knowledge -- Albert Einstein

September 2017 Fleet Awards
11-Oct-2017     Fleet News

It has been quite a month as the fleet slipped into fall in the northern hemisphere and spring in the southern. It was full of growth and activity for both the fleet and its members.

It was a month to celebrate banned books, astronomy, stellar milestones, school, and watching people come together to help in times of need. All-in-all, it was pretty spectacular.

The sims and players in the fleet were also pretty spectacular. See below for the winners of the monthly and quarterly fleet awards. And congratulations to everyone who helps make Theta Fleet a great place to sim!

September 2017 Fleet Awards/p>

Unit of Distinction
Task Force 23
Gold (tie): USS Yamato & USS Hermes
Silver (tie): USS Missouri & USS Hyperion
Bronze (tie): USS Winchester & Starbase Vanguard
Area 51
Gold (tie): USS Musashi & SS Boreas
Silver: USS Hera & USS Asgard
Bronze: USS Redemption

Writer of the Month
Task Force 23:
Hermes: Susan (Lt. Shannon MacKennon). Susan has been responsible for just under a quarter of the posts that have been done on Hermes, and in doing so has created a wonderful character in MacKennon, whilst also creating various NPC's, whom all of which are great characters who have also been incorporated into these posts. A truly wonderful and talented writer, and I always look forward to posts from her.
Area 51 (tie)
Hera: Lieutenant Thex sh'Zoarhi. Thex's writing has improved dramatically since becoming a part of the Hera's family and while still having a few small issues probably due to a failure of spelling and grammar check in their chosen writing system, is now an engaging person to write with.
Redemption: Petty Officer 1st Class Lia McCarthy, her character and position were not originally on the Redemption's roster. When I was approached and asked about the idea I jumped on it immediately, and I have no regrets. McCarthy is an enjoyable and talented writer and quite interesting to play with. I look forward to seeing her story arc fleshed out in it's fullest.

Player of the Month
Task Force 23:
Calypso & Inti: Tony
Calypso: Tony, who plays Leroy Mangalia. Leroy is putting the fighter pilots through their paces in a creative holodeck program. At the same time, he's helping with the investigation. Tony is always willing to help out with a post and he's got great ideas for how to get people involved and for putting his character where he can be of best use.
Inti: Tony, for bringing new life to Inti.
Area 51:
Musashi: Kim Finney as Lieutenant K'Niras Sh'howul– It would be very easy for me to say I am nominating Kim (again) because she deserves it for her hard work and dedication to assisting me with graphical work and running Musashi while my XO is tied up with classes. I could also say she does a great job writing a convincing Communications Officer. All of this is true. However, what makes her truly outstanding and deserving of this award is because she was MVP for Musashi's first mission start to finish. Not only did her Communications Officer get assigned to my XO's landing party...

Post of the Month
Task Force 23:
Pegasus: Its a three part series that I'm nominating for post of the month since they go best together, all NPCs and written solo by Kat.
Part I: "One last task...maybe" (http://pegasus.thetafleet.net/index.php/sim/viewpost/219)
Part II: "Briefing" (http://pegasus.thetafleet.net/index.php/sim/viewpost/221)
Part III: "The Shoe Drops" (http://pegasus.thetafleet.net/index.php/sim/viewpost/222)
Area 51:
Boreas: "Doubling Odds" (http://boreas.sim-station.net/index.php/sim/viewpost/226)

TGCO Award of Merit
Task Force 23:
23-A: USS Missouri
23-B: USS Hermes
23-C: USS Winchester
Area 51:
51-A: Hogwarts
51-B: USS Hera
51-C: SS Boreas

Quarterly Fleet Awards: Third Quarter

Task Force 23
Sim of the Quarter
USS Winchester. The Winchester came out of the gate strong and has continued to perform well. The crew is experienced and gets along well. The writing and character development have been excellent.
CO of the Quarter:
Hyperion - John Theismann. The CO encourages his crew to come up with ideas and is a willing participant in side posts and mission alike.
XO of the Quarter:
Atlantis - Chris Brooks. Chris has almost single-handedly kept the sim going this past quarter. He has encouraged people to post and has actively participated in every post so that people have someone to write with.
Writer of the Quarter:
Winchester - Elicia. Elicia not only posts with everyone, her character is quirky enough to make every post interesting. She does an excellent job in blending her Klingon and Japanese heritage with her role as the ship's doctor. Her character is personable and quirky, which makes her writing fun to read.
Player of the Quarter:
Erebus & Pegasus: Fruit Loop. Fruit Loop has been encouraging, supportive, and a cheerleader for the Erebus. On Pegasus she has jumped into the mission with enthusiasm. Both her COs are highly complimentary.

Area 51:
Sim of the Quarter
USS Musashi. Since joining the fleet early this quarter, the Musashi has been a stellar performer with a strong crew and plenty of activity.
CO of the Quarter:
USS Galileo - Lirha Saalm. The sim is always active, with some of the best writers in the fleet and complex missions where the crew has plenty of opportunities to get involved. All of this is because of the time and effort put in by the CO. In addition, a new site is in the works that will debut around the end of the year.
XO of the Quarter:
Hera - Mal Xustos. While the CO has been dealing with health issues, the XO has stepped up to fill in the gaps and keep the sim going strong.
Writer of the Quarter:
Redemption - Andrew. Before joining the sim, he looked it over and came up with a great way to bring his character on board that is not only fun to read, it involves recurring characters, the general story line, and includes several members of the crew.
Player of the Quarter:
Musashi - Ezra. His contributions to the sim and his support of the CO have been stellar. He definitely deserves kudos for all he's done this quarter to help out.
